Chennai flooded from weekend rains

Chennai : Parts of Chennai remain flooded from heavy showers on Friday. Navy divers have been called in to help with rescue work.
Lawyer Sudha Ramalingam, a victim blamed rising road levels as one of the reasons for rainwater sweeping into homes.
"Every time they [authorities] relay the street, they do not keep to the level. The street [levels] goes up and the houses go down. Except for two houses all the old houses are in knee-deep water, she said of the flooding.
The city received 31 cms of rainfall and the sky remains overcast. The Met Department has predicted another night of showers accompanied by thunder.
But reports also said the depression over Bay of Bengal has weakened.
Earlier reports spoke of possible heavy rains in southern Tamil Nadu and coastal Andhra Pradesh.
The sea is expected to be rough and wind speed is likely to touch 70 km an hour.
